Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Maizou Pianist ('we', 'us', 'our') collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you visit our website, create an account, or purchase our online piano course. By using our Site and services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.
1. Who we are
Maizou Pianist is an online piano-teaching service operated from Lyon, France. For any question about this Policy or your personal data, you can contact us at hello@maizoupianist.com.
2. Data we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
- Account data: first name, last name, email address, phone number, country, and password (stored in encrypted/hashed form only)
- Marketing preferences: whether you agreed to receive newsletters and promotional communications
- Payment data: when you purchase the course, payment is processed entirely by our payment provider, Stripe. We do not collect or store your full card number, expiry date, or security code on our servers; Stripe provides us only with confirmation of payment, a transaction identifier, and the billing details necessary for our accounting and legal obligations
- Usage and learning data: lesson progress, video-watching activity, login history, device/browser information, and IP address
- Communications: any message you send us (support requests, emails)
- Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 8 below
3. How we use your data
We use your personal data to:
- Create and manage your account
- Provide access to the course content you purchased
- Process payments and prevent fraud
- Send you service-related communications (account confirmation, password reset, purchase receipts) — these are necessary and cannot be opted out of while your account is active
- Send you newsletters and promotional offers, but only if you have opted in; you may withdraw this consent at any time (see Section 9)
- Improve our Site, content and services, and carry out internal analytics and statistics
- Comply with our legal, tax and accounting obligations
- Enforce our Terms & Conditions and protect against fraud, abuse or unauthorized use
4. Legal basis for processing
For users in the EU/EEA, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: to create your account and provide the course you purchased
- Consent: for marketing communications (newsletter) and non-essential cookies
- Legitimate interest: to secure our Site, prevent fraud, and improve our services
- Legal obligation: to keep accounting and invoicing records as required by French law
5. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, strictly to operate our Site and services:
- Stripe, Inc. (payment processing)
- Our hosting and database providers, who store the Site and the account/course-progress database
- Analytics and advertising providers (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Tag Manager), if you have consented to non-essential cookies
- Our email-sending provider, to deliver transactional and, if you opted in, marketing emails
We may also disclose data where required by law or court order, or to protect our rights, property or safety, or that of our users.
6. International data transfers
Some of our service providers (for example Stripe or Google) may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where this occurs, we rely on the safeguards recognized by applicable law, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure your data continues to receive an adequate level of protection.
7. Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or request erasure, we will delete or anonymize your personal data, except where we are legally required to retain certain records — for example, invoices and payment records, which French law requires us to retain for up to 10 years for accounting and tax purposes. Data collected via cookies is retained for the periods indicated in Section 8.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
Our Site uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences (strictly necessary — always active), and, if you consent, to measure audience and deliver and measure advertising (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Tag Manager). Non-essential cookies are only set after you give your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by clearing your browser's cookies or adjusting your browser settings.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Request erasure of your data ('right to be forgotten'), subject to our legal retention obligations
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Request portability of the data you provided us
- Withdraw your consent at any time for marketing communications or non-essential cookies, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in France, the CNIL — www.cnil.fr)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@maizoupianist.com. We may ask you to verify your identity before responding, and we reserve the right to refuse requests that are manifestly unfounded or excessive, or that we are not legally required to fulfill.
10. Data security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures (encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls) to protect your personal data. However, no method of transmission or storage over the Internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account password confidential.
11. Children
Our services are not directed at children under 16. If you are under 16, you may only use our Site and create an account with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it.
12. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy at any time, in particular to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised 'last updated' date and will apply from the moment it is published. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of our Site and services after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
